What Is a Family Visit Visa?

If you have family members within the European Economic Area (EEA) and you are not, you need not worry because you can always visit by getting a family visit visa. You and your loved ones only need to follow all the legal procedures to acquire a family visit visa.

Basic Knowledge about the Family Visit Visa

If your family members are within the European Economic Area, you can get a family visit visa to travel and spend time with your family. However, what you and the rest of the family members specifically need to travel to the UK is a Standard Visitor Visa which falls under the Family Visit Visa category.

The visa is only viable for six months. Some requirements include proof that you can you’re your whole stay there. The Family Visit Visa is strictly for visits only because you can not work in the UK, claim funds, or carry any family members. Every family member has to apply for their Standard Visitor Visa.

Documents To Support Your Application

If part or the whole of your application is in a foreign language, you will have to include certified English translations of the documents and details of the translator.

You need to attach proof that you will be getting back to your home country for work, school, or something like a family that ties you to your home country at the end of the visit.

Proof that you can comfortably fund the trip through the days or weeks you will spend in the UK. The funding can be from you or the family members you will visit in the UK. Some of the documents you can attach to prove this include bank statements and payslips.

Proof that you are connected to the individuals you are going to visit is essential since you have to have a genuine relationship to get the Family Visit Visa.

Eligibility Requirements

Below are the eligibility requirements:

  • You have to be 18 years of age or above.
  • The visit has to be for six months or less.
  • You have to agree to come back after the visit visa expiry beforehand.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support you throughout your stay without an urgent need to work in the UK or seek public funds. It is okay to get supported by your family members in the UK.

Visa Extension

Before considering an extension, remember that a Family Visit Visa is only valid for six months. You have an option of extending your stay, but you have to apply for the extension before your current Visit Visa expiry.

Maintaining family relationships is essential, which is why you need to consider visiting your family members. You can apply for a Family Visit Visa by yourself or with the help of your family members in the UK or a law firm that can give you some tangible legal advice.

Ensure you are eligible by checking through the requirements and ensuring you have all the required documents before starting the application process.
